Understanding Hip Problems
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint that supports your body weight while allowing for a wide range
of movement. It’s one of the largest and most stable joints in your body, but this doesn’t make it
immune to problems. Hip issues can significantly affect your mobility, making walking, climbing
stairs, and even sitting uncomfortable.
Hip pain can originate from the joint itself, surrounding muscles, tendons, or nearby structures.
Sometimes, hip pain may actually be referred from your lower back, making proper diagnosis
crucial for effective treatment.
Common Hip Conditions We Treat
Hip Osteoarthritis Wear and tear of the hip joint cartilage, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion, particularly common in older adults but can affect younger people too.
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome A condition affecting the outer side of the hip where
multiple tendons attach to the thigh bone. Often mistaken for hip bursitis, this syndrome causes deep, aching pain on the outside of the hip that may radiate down the thigh, particularly troublesome when climbing stairs or lying on the affected side.
Hip Bursitis Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the hip joint, causing pain on the
outside of the hip that may worsen with walking or lying on the affected side.
Hip Flexor Strains Injuries to the muscles that lift your thigh toward your abdomen, common in athletes and active individuals, causing pain in the front of the hip or groin.
Piriformis Syndrome Tightness or spasm of the piriformis muscle that can compress the sciatic nerve, causing buttock pain that may radiate down the leg.
Hip Labral Tears Damage to the cartilage ring that surrounds the hip socket, often causing
deep hip pain and a clicking sensation.
Groin Strains Injuries to the muscles on the inside of the thigh, causing pain in the groin area that worsens with movement.
